it removes the trading company’s margin, avoids a second round of handling
and shipping, and gives you direct access to the engineering team and the
spare parts supply. For a mid-size crushing line, that typically adds up to
15 to 25 percent against buying the same equipment through an intermediary.
But “factory-direct” only helps if the seller is genuinely a factory — and
it is not always the right answer, which this article also explains.

“Factory-direct” is not a discount. It is the removal of a layer of cost.
Here is where the money comes from, item by item.
The trading margin, removed
A trading company buys from a factory and resells. That margin is
typically 8 to 15 percent, and the buyer pays it. Remove the layer and
that cost disappears — not reduced, removed.
One round of handling instead of two
An intermediary buys the machine, takes delivery, may store it, then
re-ships it. Each movement costs money: labour, cranes, sometimes a
second set of packing. Buying direct means the machine is loaded once,
at the factory, and shipped once.
Direct engineering, not relayed engineering
When you buy through a middleman, your technical questions travel from
you to the trader to the factory and back. Details get lost, and the
flowsheet is often generic. Buying direct means the engineer who designs
your plant is the person you speak to.
Direct spare parts at factory prices
Wear parts are a recurring cost for the life of the machine. Bought
through an intermediary, every jaw plate and liner carries an extra
margin. Bought direct, it does not — and that saving repeats every time
you re-order.
No double mark-up on freight
A trader often quotes freight with its own margin built in. Quoting
logistics directly, from the factory gate to your port, removes it.
Add those up on a mid-size line and the difference is commonly in the 15 to
25 percent range. On smaller machines the percentage can be lower; on a
complete line with significant freight and a spare parts package, it can be
higher.
The phrase is used loosely, so it is worth defining. A genuine factory-direct
purchase means:
You are contracting with the manufacturer, not a reseller
The machine is built at the manufacturer’s own facility
The warranty is issued by the manufacturer
Spare parts come from the same source as the machine
Engineering comes from the manufacturer’s own team
Our own position: AON Mining operates from a 60,000 m² production base with
in-house R&D, and all core equipment is designed and produced in-house. When
we quote, we are quoting our own build, our own warranty and our own
engineering — not a machine we buy in and mark up.

Here is the honest part. A lower purchase price does not automatically mean a
lower project cost. Two things can reverse the saving:
Cheaper components. If the lower price comes from lighter steel, cheaper
bearings or thinner liners, the machine will cost more over its life than
the one you “overpaid” for. This is the most common trap.
No local support. If a distant factory cannot support the plant when it
stops, a local intermediary with a service team may be worth its margin.
So the right comparison is never “price versus price”. It is total cost of
ownership: purchase, freight, installation, power, wear parts, maintenance
and downtime. Run that calculation and factory-direct often wins clearly —
but run it, do not assume it.
To be straight with you: there are situations where a local agent or
distributor is the better choice.
You need local stock and same-week spare parts, and the agent holds them
You need local installation labour and local warranty service
You are buying a small quantity and the agent can consolidate it with
other shipments
You value a local relationship and local language support highly
None of that changes the economics of the machine itself. It changes what
you are buying: equipment, or equipment plus local service. Decide which you
actually need.
If you are going to pay for factory-direct, make sure you are getting it.
Check the entity, ask for a live video walkthrough of the workshop, ask
where the core components are machined, and ask who issues the warranty and
the test report. We cover the full set of checks in our guide on verifying a
Chinese crusher manufacturer.
A flowsheet designed for your material, not a standard package
Direct answers on delivery and production status
Direct spare parts supply for the machine’s whole life
A single party responsible for quality and warranty
The manufacturer’s own test report before shipment
These are worth as much as the price difference, and they are the reason we
sell direct rather than through a channel.

Q: Is factory-direct always cheaper?
A: The equipment usually is, typically 15 to 25 percent on a mid-size line.
Whether the project is cheaper depends on the total cost of ownership,
which is why you should compare on that, not on price alone.
Q: How do I know I am buying from a real factory?
A: Ask for a live video walkthrough of the workshop, the business licence,
and who issues the warranty and test report. A reseller cannot show you a
production line that is not theirs.
Q: Does factory-direct mean no after-sales support?
A: No. It means the manufacturer supports you directly, rather than through
a middleman. Remote support, spare parts and commissioning supervision
are all direct.
Q: Why do quotes sometimes differ by more than 25 percent?
A: Because they may not cover the same scope, the same components or the
same trade term. Compare the itemised scope before comparing the price.
Q: Can I visit the factory before ordering?
A: Yes, and we encourage it. We also offer live video walkthroughs for
buyers who cannot travel.
Send us your material, capacity and product requirements, and we will quote
you directly from the factory — with an itemised scope of supply so you can
see exactly what you are paying for and compare it properly with any other
offer.
